The Yuba City Certified Farmers Market gathers at the Town Square fountain every Saturday from 8:00 AM to noon through October, and September is peak season for late stone fruit, peppers, melons, and early apples. It's a relaxed morning stroll, a chance to grab flowers for the kitchen table, and an easy place to meet neighbors who have already made Yuba City home. Bring a stroller and some reusable bags. There are also companion market hours at Companion Farms on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday afternoons in Yuba City if you need a restock mid-week.

The base's civilian-run programs, including the Beale Spouses Club, are a wonderful way for new spouses to meet people and volunteers to give back, and the Family Support Services (FSS) calendar is packed with weekly family offerings: youth center teen nights like Teen Tuesdays, Workout Wednesdays, and STEM & Art Thursdays, plus movie nights and outdoor recreation outings. Pack a picnic for Eufay Wood Sr. Memorial Park in Plumas Lake, where the spray pad, play areas, and covered picnic tables keep little ones entertained, or head to Veteran's Park nearby for open green space. In Marysville, Ellis Lake offers a walking path, pedal boats, and ducks to feed, and POW/MIA Park has playgrounds plus an adult workout area when you need a break. Confirm school placement this week. Both Yuba City Unified and Marysville Joint Unified are well into their first semester, so if you arrived within the last few weeks, make sure your student's enrollment, bus route, and supply list are finalized. Each district posts its enrollment steps online and both stay flexible for military families, so start with the district's registration page; for anything tricky, Beale's School Liaison Officer at the FSS office is your best resource, including for Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) questions.
Get your VA financing conversation going. VA-backed loans offer qualified active-duty buyers a zero-down path with no private mortgage insurance, and lenders see your BAH as steady, recognizable income. If you have orders in hand and have not yet spoken with a VA-approved lender, this fall is a good moment to begin pre-approval so you can move quickly when the right home comes up.
Small logistics, big relief. This is also a great week to set up your utilities and ask the base about housing and community resources, like the Housing Referral Office and New Neighbor resources at the Family Support Center, so nothing slips while you settle in.
